Thoughts on the 3 Day Robot

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the people and sponsors behind the 3 Day Robot from the bottom of our crumb tray.  In our “expert” estimation, there is no regional in the world where this robot would go unpicked.  If this isn’t a top 24 robot, then it is because about half of the robots at the regional look like this and we see by far the most exciting qualifying matches of the modern FRC era.

This video will be see by hundreds, if not thousands of teams.  It only takes one kid on the team to see it and show everyone else who goes, “Whoah!”  Much like the Rhode Warriors unveiling a fully completed robot in Week 3 in 2008, we expect this design will be wildly copied and we think that it is awesome!  One of the best ways to inspire everyone is to play competitive matches that people want to watch because they are exciting, not because their kid or friend built the robot.  Well done!

In our estimation these guys have done more to elevate the level of play nationwide than anyone else will all season.  Thanks!

As a word of caution, we hope that teams do not see this and think “Oh wow, this game is super easy!” and over-reach.  As 1114 pointed out on their facebook page yesterday, it is very important to build something yourself and make sure you can get the same level of performance.  The devil is always in the details.
